Tarea #9: Final Reflection

This is the last entry for the class of INF103-003. After a long journey and many blog entries both personal and from assignments. Here I will list all of my completed assignments.

The assignments that I completed and posted in the blog are:

First entry: Welcome to my Music Blog

  • Tarea #8: Coding

Blog Statistics during Semester

These are all of my statistics and it definitely surprised me that there were people in China that saw my post. This was likely due to the tags that I put on my blog posts.

Course Reflection

The class of Informatica 103 section 3 by Professor Vantaggiato in my opinion was a very successful course that taught me all about the expense of the knowledge of websites to enrich the educational experience. We began the course learning about how to establish our website on WordPress. My blog consists of different insights and knowledge on music and my thoughts on the artistry. It became a place where i could freely post my thoughts and interests and I can see myself using it in the future.

I consider that I took full advantage of the skills and resources that were taught and distributed during the duration of the class. Despite our in classroom learning being interrupted by the global Pandemic of Covid-19, I truly feel like this class was specifically one of the best in dealing with the entire situation. The transition from in classroom to online was seamless and Professor Vantaggiato truly demonstrated his capabilities of the topics.

Two Interests

My two favorite tings from the class were the sites Diigolet and even Codecademy. Both of these I will continue to use in my personal time. Diigolet for references and Code academy to further learn how to code in a simplified way.

Two important things I learned

In the end the two most important things I learned were all the information on the final project on 3D-printing and how it is developing here in Puerto Rico. The second most important tool would be the Feedly website which will come in handy when categorizing and finding important information for projects.

I don’t think I would change anything about this course, it is complete and really provides a large amount of resources for the students.

For our final presentation, my group was the last one to present. unfortunately we didn’t have enough class time to finish. Here I will put the complete video of our presentation . I truly feel like my group did an excellent job and I am proud of all that we were able to accomplish.

Finally, I filled the questionnaire for the class. Thank you for the class and the information provided.

The Importance of Playlists

Playlists are a form of self expression that is oftentimes overlooked. When you create a playlist you compile a list of songs that remind you or are directly related to the subject. For me personally the use of playlists has been continued for many years in regards to classes, creativity and even as gifts for other people. When you are on your way to create a playlist there are a few things that you must keep in mind.

One of the most important things is maintaining a unison in sound. There has to be a conjoined sound that sets the mood for the entire playlist. If it will be sad then the entire playlist should have a progression.

Let’s say that you want to go from sad to happy, then there must be a gradient of sound not simply from an extremely happy to an extremely sad. The medium to utilize could be Spotify, Youtube, or even Soundcloud

Next, you need to then know who this playlist will be directed towards, for example a boyfriend, a sister or even a mother. Perhaps even a situation.

Ultimately you must consider that creating a playlist is a completely individual experience and that everyone is going to have different versions of what is correct.

It is an incredible way to show your loved ones that you think about them and to say words that you wouldn’t otherwise express.

So next time you don’t know what to give someone why not offer them the gift of music.

Björk and her Music Career

Björk Gudmundsdottir is an Icelandic singer-songwriter who has been a groundbreaking figure in the music and visual arts fields. Her art is particularly laced with electronic and organic sounds. Her music breeches on the edge of experimentalism always pushing the limit between nature and technology. Björk has had a career with bands and this helped her grow her relationship with the people that facilitate her musical process. Later in her life as she embarked in her solo career with experimental works her work was always raw and touching in her vulnerability.

Her discography includes her debut album titled Debut as well as the hypnotic Vespertine. Other works include Vulnicura which came after her divorce.

It was a tipping point when Björk began experimenting with microbeats as well as layered recordings of birdsong and an entire flute ensemble.

The artist Bjork is important to me in htat it opened a completley new door for music. I was used to listening to pop and alternative but these micro-beats and incredibly thought out runs impressed me. There is true artistry in this music and though all music is an expression of oneself, it is though Bjork trancends all boundaries.

Her music may appear intimidating and noisy but it is truly the type of music that allows for introspection within. I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to breach out of their comfort zone to give Bjork a listen. This music is not for everyone but it is also incredible to see how music helps like minded people to come together. This is an experience for the ears as well as the mind.

I sincerely hope you will be moved to listen to this incredible artist and all that her work provides.

Tarea #7: Diigolet

https://www.diigo.com/user/francesval

Review of Fetch the Bolt Cutters

Fiona Apple born in 1977 is an artist who has transcended through the decades. Her course through the musical world was one with ups and downs but her individualism in her art is clear in each one of her albums. After an eight long hiatus from her last album iconically titled “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do” Apple released the long awaited follow up called “Fetch The Bolt Cutters”.

In a raw preview into her artistic journey she released this new record that encapsulates the growth of eight years of progress. In an interview with Vulture, Fiona discusses what each of her songs from the album means.

This album gave me much to think about and to analyze. I tend to listen to alternative music and this is a mix of a type of alternative rock with elements of country and jazz.

Tarea #6 Informe 3D Printing

  1. Technologies studied, brief history

The concept of 3D printing has been around for much longer than most people would imagine. Initially this technology first began in 1981. During the years of 1984-1988 the new invention was called stereolithography, this allows designers to create three dimensional models using data. A man named Charles Hull began forming a process that utilized UV lamps and curing resin layer by layer. The process showed undeniable potential. Then in the years following 1999 advances in 3D printing came so far as to successfully create a synthetic human bladder and implant it on someone. 3D printing was an incredible door of opportunities for the medical field.

In 2005 there was even a 3D printer that could print its own parts. Slowly but surely people had the power to create whatever they wished to create. This printing alternative became used for manufacturing industrial parts, mass consumption and was commercially available. Nowadays 3D printing is surely at the highest peak it has ever been. With the creation of aircraft pieces, jewelry, housing parts, and prosthetics this market is nowhere near slowing down.

  1. Technology description:

A 3D printer is simply a machine that can take a digital 3D model and turn it into a tangible 3D object via additive manufacturing. As stated in What is 3d printing?, “The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.” While these printers come in many forms, they all have three basic parts: the digital file, printing machine and printing material.

The digital file instructs the printer exactly how to create the 3D object. It does this by dividing the object into layers and describing the dimensions of each layer with great accuracy. Once uploaded the oficial file, the printing machine needs enough free and clean space to construct the object, which is why 3D printers typically have a box, vat, or compartment to work in. While techniques vary, these machines usually employ nozzles or lasers to lay down the material and then set it for each layer. Once starting to print, the printer extrudes the material into thus creating the object wanted. These printed objects are mainly created of a single material. One of the most popular is ABS plastic; however, 3D printers can also use various types of nylon and resins.

All in all the process of 3D printing encompases many forms of technology and materials used in almost all industries. The 3D machines are here to serve needs from short-run prototyping through full-scale contract manufacturing. It has changed the way people can present objects and improves a better work lifestyle.

Tarea #5 Privacidad y Seguridad: Resumen

Articulo “I Downloaded the Information That Facebook Has on Me. Yikes” by Tech FIx

Articulo “Are you ready? Here is all the data Facebook and Google have on you” Guardian

Music and how it calms

There are countless of different forms of therapy all around the globe but one that can be especially useful in this time of quarantine is music therapy. Due to the current state of the world, it is no surprise that we turn to music and entertainment sources to relieve some of the stress of this new reality we are living in.

Music therapy is a practice that utilizes sound to treat different needs that each individual could have. This involves physical, emotional, social, or cognitive areas. While usually performed by a professional therapist that decides on treatments such as creating music, listening, or even dancing we can take this as an outline and apply it to everyday life.

Just like how pregnant women play classical music, adults often forget that these sounds are proven to stimulate certain areas of the brain. Music allows for us to tap into our emotions, releasing chemicals that impact our moods. These elicited behavioral changes don’t have to be frightening, we can use them to our advantage. Each person has the liberty to search for which sound they resonate with and feels more comforting. Now is a time perfect for self introspection with the help of the sounds that make you not just want to open up but make you feel at home.

The world is going through a very complicated state right now and it is up to us to prevent the spread of this disease. Social distancing might be very difficult but using the resources around you such as music it could turn into a not so negative situation.

Yandex Experiment

In class we learned about a search engine called Yandex. It is much safer and private then other search engines such as Google and Bing. Our assignment was to put a picture of ourselves in the reverse search and show the results. Here are mine.

This was the picture I used of myself.

These were my results.

It is clear that Yandex recognized the angle in which my face was in as well as the volume of curls on my head and face. It is with a full heart that I see pictures of the artist Zendeya who I admire very much. I am also thankful that pictures of lions didn’t come up.
